Art The October issue of a-n magazine has a feature on support and development facilities for artists, including ArtSway where I am currently and for the next few years being supported as one of their Associates. At the moment ArtSway is working with me to produce and promote my latest project, Magickal Realism. _ArtThis book, published by Art Editions North and English Heritage, features an interview with me and critical text on my Phantom Power films, along with some nicely produced images from them. "Lavishly illustrated" is the appropriate cliché. The book’s called The Berwick Gymnasium Fellowships: An Archival Record and documents the work of me and all the other Berwick Fellows from the beginning of the scheme in the early 90s. It’s now available from your local art book shop or from our evil overlords at Amazon. Major update: Six of my older films and an excerpt from my latest project are now available to watch online. You can see Kiddy Fiddler [Ganymede & Zeus], Stag Film [Actaeon & Artemis], Mourning Wood, Kitsune San, Black Sun, Taxonomy and a preview of some animation from the forthcoming Magickal Realism. You need a password to watch them, but the password is given right next to each film on the appropriate page. I know that on the internet even such a tiny speed bump is tantamount to heresy, but for now this is the best compromise between making them available for civilised people such as yourself to watch and the unavoidably horrendous bear pit of online video sites. I’ll be putting more videos up over the next few months. My collaboration with Joe Magee for Channel 4’s ’Animate!’, Hypnomart, is still available to watch in full online at the Animate Projects site; you can read more about Hypnomart here. You can still also stream Video With National Characteristics and Qingdao 58 Middle from my site. A new page with some images from a live video / live performance project I’m developing for exhibition this autumn: the John Dee Actions, AKA Magickal Realism. In September I added a preview of some animation from the show, plus lots of new images, costumes, research materials and background information. Other new or updated pages in the last few months: All new Photography page. A new page for LPT BNB GDD LGN JPN, a short animated film inspired by an unusual combination of ’Gulliver’s Travels’ and Aleister Crowley; the Great Beast gets his parka on... There’s a new page for the films / video installation I made in late 2008: Taxonomy (Some Attempts at Racial Discrimination) and Racial Discriminator. New page for the first of my nocturnal live art / storytelling / live roleplaying events, which took place in Yokohama, Japan: Kitsune Yoru (Fox Night). My novel Their Heads Are Anonymous is now out of print, but you can download a free PDF here. RECENT EXHIBITIONS AND PUBLICATIONS: Art of the Overhead, Stapelbäddsparken, Malmö, Sweden, May 2009. Scroll down or check the appropriate page for more details.
NOVEMBER 2009 UPDATE:
You can also check out the huge archive of short stories from the past six years at PULP.NET, my own Multi Medea and Googlehead among them. These two stories are also in my printed short fiction collection Uncanny Valley. The Video Vortex Reader is a collection of texts about online video, with an essay by Broadcast Yourself curator Sarah Cook discussing works from the recent exhibition, including my Nowhere Plains webcasts. The book is available either in printed form or as a PDF download from Amsterdam’s Institute of Network Cultures.
ONLINE, ELSEWHERE:
My 2001 online necro—micro fiction 100 BLACK BOXES also lives on as a blog; one hundred words by one hundred different characters about the moment they died. No longer updated.
_INPUT:
My reviews and discussions of books, exhibitions and other media have all moved to a dedicated blog site: New postings will in future go there directly. You can read my already somewhat notorious hating on Frieze Art Fair which took place in London in October and, in short, was like having a copy of Frieze magazine superglued to your face. Bad, in other words. Read more... I’m a writer and artist, or an artist and writer... sometimes other things, too. I live in the UK. The work I make for publication, performance, broadcast and installation is often “subversive” (SFX), at times “startling” (The Independent) and occasionally even “fascinating” (The Times). I take part in gallery exhibitions, art and film festivals, readings, workshops and real-world incursions throughout my home country, the rest of Europe, and the world. Scroll down for news and updates. ![]() Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, 2009.
